The performance „Actually it’s beautiful” by Volker Schmidt, a production of the German State Theatre Timișoara (GSTT) will be presented during the 22nd edition of the Short Theatre Festival Oradea

in the Casa de Cultură a Sindicatelor Oradea.

The Short Theatre Festival is part of the International Theatre Festival Oradea which is taking place for the 4th time in the period from the 25th September to the 2nd October 2016. This year the theatre critic Doru Mareș has made the artistic selection.

Directing and stage design are signed by the author Volker Schmidt himself, renowned Austrian playwright, actor and director, laureate of the Playwright Competition „Heidelberger Stückemarkt”. Costumes are designed by Nina Kroschinske from Berlin and light design by Botond Nosz. The cast features GSTT actors Konstantin Keidel, Ioana Iacob, Radu Vulpe, Richard Hladik, Anne-Marie Waldeck and Oana Vidoni.

“Actually, it’s beautiful” takes a close look at the relationships of a generation that’s leading in running away from obligations, always on the look-out for something better. A performance about people in their 30’s, well instructed, going from one temp job to the next, always on the road and live in semi-furnished places, whose profiles on social networks are updated non-stop and tuned. Behind the banality of presenting the self on Facebook hides the drama of looking for the right relationship.

About this project and his work philosophy, Volker Schmidt explains the following: “I want to work with joy and passion. I want to explore the man and show his mystery and contradiction. I want to show that nobody is alone with the questions and problems they are confronted with. It is about a universal view on the man, about growing together by experiencing and reflecting situations on stage.”
