The performance exchange between the two German Expression stages in Romania continues: after the German section of the „Radu Stanca” National Theatre Sibiu (RSNT) staged the performance „Panic. Men on the brink of Desperation” by Mika Myllyaho in Timisoara in March of 2016, now comes the turn of the German State Theatre Timisoara (GSTT) to stage a performance of their own in Sibiu. As such, the show „The Misunderstanding” by Albert Camus, directed by Bocsárdi László, will take place on
Tuesday, the 19th of April 2016, at 19:30 o’clock
in the Hall of the „Radu Stanca” National Theatre Sibiu.
The tournament is taking place with the support of the Democratic Forum of Germans in Sibiu.
The cast reunites actors Enikő Blénessy, Georg Peetz, Ida Jarcsek-Gaza, Ioana Iacob and Sorin Leoveanu. Set design is signed by Bartha József, costumes by Dobre-Kóthay Judit and soundtrack by Könczei Árpád. The show will feature translation in Romanian.
Camus’s play – written in a then occupied Paris, in 1942 /1943– takes on the questions present throughout his work about the meaning of life and the (im)possibility of finding happiness in a God forsaken place. The play brings to life Martha and her mothers’ lives, who own a guesthouse in a gloomy town in Bohemia. Martha wants to leave everything behind and dreams of a better life at the seaside. To make this dream come true, the two women rob their rich guests and then drown them. When a new guest shows up, the two women have no clue that he is the long gone son of their family, who had left twenty years earlier, never to be seen again. A fatal misunderstanding occurs.
The show “The Misunderstanding”, was produced by GSTT in 2012, and was present in the official selection of the National Theatre Festival in Bucharest.
