Alexandru Dabija directs for the German Theatre
The German State Theatre in Timişoara scheduled for Thursday, April 2nd 2009, 7 p.m., the premiere of the play "The Bald Soprano", by Eugène Ionesco, directed by Alexandru Dabija.

Alexandru Dabija directed numerous performances both in the country and abroad, such as the ones in Brussels (Poeme-Theater) and Berlin (Theatre der Welt, Hebbel-Theatre), organised and led workshops in Scotland, Belgium, Great Britain and Romania, and some of his staged performances have been presented in tours and festivals across Germany, Slovakia, Ukraine, Israel, Russia, Switzerland, etc. Alexandru Dabija is a first-prize winner both at home as well as in foreign countries. Among his numerous awards and distinctions we mention the National Award for Art, the Award for Best Director at the National Comedy Festival, Best Staging Award at the Romanian Dramaturgy Festival in Timişoara, the UNITER Best Staging Award, the Critics Award for Best Director, etc. He was nominated by UNITER for the Best Director Award, and the Best Staging Award, respectively.

The actors involved in this performance in Timişoara are Radu Vulpe, Ioana Iacob, Rareş Hontzu, Isolde Cobeţ, Olga Török and Boris Gaza. The set and costumes are designed by George Petre.

"The Bald Soprano", Ionesco's debut play, was staged for the first time in 1950 in Paris. The show marked the transition of modern theatre from the Aristotelian tradition to the theatre of the absurd. The play brings forward people's inability to communicate and the deficiencies of their own identity. The staging of this play is also intended to mark one century since the author's birth.
